Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum:

Plan, teach, and assess lessons aligned with the Cambridge Primary curriculum.

Develop engaging instructional materials and create lesson plans.

Foster critical thinking, creativity, and a love for learning in students.

Assessment and Reporting:

Assess and monitor student progress through various methods like tests, assignments, and feedback.

Record and report on student learning needs, progress, and achievements.

Set and mark work for students.

Classroom and School Management:

Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment.

Uphold school policies and promote pupil safety and well-being.

Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school leadership to support student development.

Contribute to the school's broader policies and development.

Qualifications and Experience

A Diploma in Education (Primary) or a degree in teaching.

A teaching qualification is often a requirement, even with a subject degree.

Experience with the Cambridge curriculum, including Cambridge Primary Checkpoint, is frequently specified.

Experience teaching a specific range of grades (Stage 3 to Stage 6) may be required.

Experience

Proven experience in primary school teaching is necessary.

Experience in private schools, particularly those using the Cambridge system, is often preferred.

Experience with the local curriculum (e.g., Zimsec) can be a plus, depending on the school's specific needs.

Skills

Strong classroom management and interpersonal skills.

Ability to create a nurturing and engaging classroom environment.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Computer literacy is often a plus.

Other requirements

A mature and dedicated attitude with a passion for education.
